Fergie's take: Manchester City would be haunted by final day failure

Deep down, Sir Alex Ferguson knows that his team’s race is just about run for another year. Only a Devon Loch moment — Ferguson’s own words — by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday will hand United the 20th English championship they crave.

Sitting before the written media for the last time this season, though, the United manager did plant just one seed of mischief on Friday when he allowed himself to wonder what life might be like for Roberto Mancini and his players were they to let glory slip through their fingers.

‘The disappointment of losing the game would be unbelievable,’ said Ferguson. ‘It’s untold at this moment in time what effect it could have on them.

‘We can only do our best and try and win the match. Hopefully something stupid happens to City. Twenty-nine years ago today I took a wee team called Aberdeen to beat Real Madrid in a European final.

‘That’s QPR’s challenge — to do an Aberdeen.’

Ferguson struck exactly the right tone. While he clearly hopes victory for his team at Sunderland will be accompanied by a miracle in east Manchester, he knows the chances are slim.

As such, he was careful to be complimentary about City manager Mancini, but also clear on one thing. That United have been in this position before and recovered the following season.

‘The situation at the moment means we are probably going to lose out this season but there’s a lot of young players in the squad,’ he said. ‘We’re not looking as though it’s an end of an era for us. In many ways it’s the start.

‘The challenge is obvious. If we lose the league then we have to try and win it again. We are certainly not going away, that’s for sure.

‘There is a great thing about this club, an in-bred discipline about what is needed to win a league and it has shown itself this season again.’

Ferguson, of course, has endured last-day dramas before, most notably when United failed to win at West Ham in 1995, allowing Blackburn to win the league despite defeat at Liverpool.

‘How many chances did we have that day?’ asked Ferguson, blowing out his cheeks. ‘It was unbelievable. It was agony, because we didn’t expect what happened at Anfield.

‘We thought Liverpool would maybe draw the game, but when we realised they had won. Well, what a chance we had.’

Ferguson and Mancini clashed on the touchline as City beat United at the Etihad recently. Should he ultimately finish second, though, Ferguson will undoubtedly convey his congratulations privately to Mancini. It is very much his style.

Asked about his rival yesterday, he said: ‘To win the league is not easy and a lot of people underestimate how hard it is to win.

‘Of course he (Mancini) has had a big financial advantage over everyone, but you still have to put a team on the pitch and pick the right players and the manager must take the most credit if you win the league in this country.

‘You have squads of players, but trying to orchestrate the harmony of the place is very important. Making everyone feel they have played their part is a massive part of the game today, so to win the league is a massive step forward for Mancini.’

Wekundu hao wapo nchini humo kwa ajili ya kuvaana na Al Ahli Shandi kwenye mchezo wa pili wa hatua ya 16 Bora ya Kombe la Shirikisho. Katika mechi ya kwanza, Simba iliwalaza Wasudani hao kwa mabao 3-0, hali inayowafanya wajaribu mbinu za ndani na nje ya uwanja ili kuwango’a vijana hao wa kocha, Milovan Cirkovic.

Kutokana na tukio hilo la ‘kugandishwa’ uwanja wa ndege, Milovan alisitisha mazoezi ya jana asubuhi lakini wakashindwa tena kufanya jana jioni kutokana na kuchelewa.

Baada ya ushindi wa 3-0, Dar, mechi hiyo ya marudiano itachezwa kesho Jumapili saa mbili usiku kwenye uwanja wa Shandi unaobeba mashabiki 10,000.

“Haya ni maajabu, wote walionekana katika kava lile wamepatwa na matatizo makubwa,” alisema mmoja wa wasanii ambaye hakupenda kuandikwa jina lake gazetini.

Kwa mujibu wa shuhuda wetu, Mei 5, mwaka huu, Muhogo ambaye anafanya kazi za sanaa katika Kikundi cha Tanganyika cha Kinondoni jijini Dar alidaiwa kumrubuni msichana huyo kwa kumwambia kuwa angemfanyia mipango ya ‘kushuti’ katika filamu mpya ya msanii Single Mtambalike ‘Richie’.

Muhogo alimwita msichana huyo nyumbani kwake, Ilala jijini Dar kisha kumlazimisha kufanya naye mapenzi bila ya ridhaa yake.

“Baada ya msichana yule kufika kwa Muhogo kwa lengo la kupelekwa kwa Richie, msanii huyo alifunga mlango na kumtaka kimapenzi na alipokataliwa ndipo alipotumia nguvu,” kimesema chanzo chetu.

Chanzo hicho kimesema kuwa Muhogo alidaiwa kumbaka msichana huyo sambamba na kumwingilia kinyume na maumbile baada ya kumchania nguo yake ya ndani.

Baada ya msanii huyo kumaliza haja zake, msichana huyo alikwenda kuripoti tukio hilo katika Kituo cha Polisi cha Urafiki, Manzese jijini Dar na kupewa hati ya kwenda kutibiwa katika Hospitali ya Mwananyamala, Dar.

“Baada ya kurudi nyumbani kwake, hali yake haikuwa nzuri ikabidi kesho yake arudi tena hospitalini hapo na kulazwa kwa siku mbili,” kisema chanzo hicho.

Hata hivyo, askari wa Kituo cha Urafiki walimshauri msichana huyo kufungua mashtaka katika Kituo cha Polisi cha Pangani Ilala ambako alipewa RB namba ILA/RB/1763/2012 KUBAKA.

Mei 10, mwaka huu, Muhogo alipandishwa katika Mahakama ya Ilala na kusomewa mashitaka mbele ya Hakimu Joyce Minde na kushtakiwa kwa makosa mawili ya kubaka na kumwingilia msichana huyo kinyume na maumbile. Kesi hiyo imeahirishwa hadi Mei 24, mwaka huu.

Usain bolts from love: Sprint king dumps girlfriend to focus on Olympics

Usain Bolt has dumped his girlfriend to concentrate on winning gold at the summer Olympics.

The Jamaican sprinted split from fashion designer Lubica Slovak so that she won’t distract him in the build-up to The Games.

News of the split follows a race row in his homeland after the 25-year-old was criticised for going out with a white woman but the relationship was defended by friends close to Bolt who described the couple as being very much in love.

But it was reported in Jamaica that the relationship was over after the two had mutually decided to split.

Bolt goes into the London Games looking to defend his 100m and 200m crowns and is also hoping to beat his own world records in both races.

Lubica, 28, emigrated to Canada when she was 14 and studied fashion design in Toronto.

She moved to Jamaica after falling in love with it on holiday and was introduced to Bolt last year through a mutual friend, reggae singer Tami Chynn.

They were said to be 'very comfortable together' and to favour quiet dinners over showbiz functions.

But they received a barrage of abuse after a picture of them kissing was published last month.

A source close to Bolt told The Sun: ‘He will have plenty of time for relationships. At the moment he’s concentrating on his running career and doesn’t want anything to distract from that.’

Bolt’s agent Ricky Simms said: ‘We don’t comment on athletes’ private lives.'

Rihanna has emerged from her recent hospital stay looking and feeling great.

The 24-year-old hit the blue carpet at tonight's LA premiere of Battleship looking healthy and well rested.

She also looked completely sexy in a simple yet stunning draped white frock that she helped to design.

The dress showed off all of her toned back, lots of leg and made the most of her many curves. But she seemed to having some trouble keeping the small piece of fabric in place in some crucial areas.

Friends and family members joined the Umbrella singer, who also discussed her reasons for pursuing an acting career.

She said; 'I always thought it was something, after I started doing videos, it felt like something that I would be interested in.

'I didn’t know if I was gonna be any good or like it. But I tried it thanks to [Director] Peter Berg and Universal and it has been really tremendous, this experience.

'I did my homework, but it was really a hands-on experience. You had to do it and learn as you went.'

If the star has anything to learn at all, it's how not to burn the candle at both ends.

She has reportedly been overworking herself as well as partying much too hard, even going so far as to miss a key rehearsal for her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Every major football tournament should be remembered for great goals, great saves and pulsating matches. However, the beautiful game isn’t always so beautiful.

Diving and simulation continue to be an issue, making life difficult for referees, who don’t have the benefit of instant replay.

Which players at Euro 2012 are most likely to con the officials? Here are an unlucky six to start with.

Arjen Robben, Netherlands: Some players curb their diving as they mature. Not the talented Robben.

After the then-Chelsea winger went down clutching his neck when tapped by Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina in 2006, Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager at the time, famously uttered: “I am in a hurry because I must go to the hospital because the injury was so serious that maybe he will be there for one week.”

Defender Neven Subotic blasted Robben after he missed a penalty in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 loss to Dortmund last month in scenes reminiscent of Martin Keown’s taunt of Ruud van Nistelrooy (another Dutchman) at Old Trafford in 2003.

“I think I said something like I don’t like diving,” Subotic quipped.

Robben appeared to be fouled to earn the penalty, but his tendency to exaggerate has left him with a mixed reputation.

Netherlands manager Bert van Marwijk defended Robben at the World Cup two years ago, but of course, he was simply trying to protect his player.

Pepe, Portugal: Is there a dirtier player in world football than Pepe? Nigel de Jong? Mark van Bommel? Giorgio Chiellini? Those are but a few nominees.

Let’s give the nod to Real Madrid’s Pepe, who kicks his own teammates and has single-handedly tried to batter Lionel Messi.

Apart from being dirty, Pepe can be termed, to put it bluntly, a big baby. Not ashamed of clattering into opponents with no intent to win the ball, a faint touch sends the defender down. The latest example of his childish behavior came in the Champions League semifinals against Bayern Munich, when Pepe writhed on the ground after Franck Ribery made mild contact with his arm.

We don’t see Pepe changing anytime soon.

Ashley Young, England: For years with Aston Villa, Young dove. No one really paid much attention to it, though, since Villa isn’t considered – now, anyways – a big club.

But the spotlight is on anyone who suits up for Manchester United, and Young’s theatrics to win penalties against QPR and Villa in back-to-back home games in April were shameful.

“He’s the biggest cheat in the league,” Newcastle defender Ryan Taylor wrote in a tweet that was later deleted.

Red Devils manager Alex Ferguson even admitted, unusually, that Young “overdid” things.

Young has company on the England team. Steven Gerrard isn’t a saint, either.

Sergio Busquets, Spain: Barcelona has deservedly earned plaudits for its attractive, suffocating style. But Javier Mascherano, Dani Alves and Busquets take the shine off a tad with their antics.

Busquets will forever be remembered for getting Inter’s Thiago Motta sent off in the Champions League semifinals two years ago after Motta – formerly of Barca – fended off the holding midfielder with an arm. Motta missed the final. That was Part 1.

Part 2 came when Busquets, still on the ground, offered a cheeky glance at the referee.

Then there was Busquets’ fall when he tangled with Real Madrid’s Marcelo (who goes down with the best of them, too) in the Champions League last year.

Mark van Bommel, Netherlands: Van Bommel is a highly skilled, valuable midfielder. His career boasts stops at Barcelona, Milan, Bayern Munich and PSV.

But van Bommel likes to offer up a little extra mustard on challenges, shall we say (and he’s been doing it for a while). He was fortunate, for instance, to get away with a stamp on Spain’s Andres Iniesta in the World Cup final two years ago.

Like Pepe, van Bommel amplifies contact – when he’s on the receiving end. Who could forget his embarrassing tumble when he clashed with Luis Figo at the 2006 World Cup?

At 35, this could be van Bommel’s swansong at a major tournament.

Ronaldo, Portugal: Ronaldo and Messi are often compared. They’re supremely skilled – scoring for fun – and are targeted by opposition sides. For the latter, they deserve sympathy. And Ronaldo has toned down his simulation since his younger days at Manchester United.

But not enough.

Ronaldo need only look at Messi to see how he should conduct himself. When Messi is on the ground, you know he’s not faking. The same can’t be said of Ronaldo – yet.

Notice how many Dutch and Portuguese internationals are featured here? The Netherlands faces Portugal in Group B on June 17, so the ref might be working overtime.

The Truth About Coconut Water

It speeds your metabolism

The truth: "This is an urban legend," says Liz Applegate, Ph.D., director of sports nutrition at the University of California in Davis. "There is no valid research proving it." Another, albeit contradictory, myth: Coconut water makes you fat. This bad rap came from coconut milk, which is made from pressed coconut meat and packs 445 calories per cup, most from saturated fat. The water (the fluid in young coconuts) has only 46 calories per cup. Of course, for a truly trimming sip, opt for zero-calorie water, coffee or tea.

It's nature's sport drink

The truth: It's a fine postworkout chug for the average active Jane, but it falls short for more hard-core athletes. The gist: When you exercise, you sweat out a lot of sodium and some potassium. You should replace both after intense sweat sessions (more than an hour a day), so your muscles contract properly. Coconut water is a potassium powerhouse, delivering roughly 600 milligrams per cup, about 175 mg more than a banana does and 13 times what most sport drinks offer. "The problem is that it has only about 30 milligrams of sodium per cup; we lose much more than that during a long workout," Applegate says. Thus, serious athletes may need a sport beverage with a higher sodium-to-potassium ratio, such as Gatorade or Powerade Ion4; lighter exercisers can rehydrate with whatever they like best, including coconut water or plain H²O.

It makes you look younger

The truth: Coconut water contains cytokinins, plant hormones shown to slow the aging process in plants and fruit flies, according to a study in Molecules. Alas, the benefits aren't yet proven in humans. The search for the fountain of youth continues.

It's a hangover helper

The truth: There's a reason the morning after a bender is so painful: Alcohol dehydrates you, leading to nausea and headaches. Like any drink, coconut water refills your H²O stores, but plain water does the job just as well, notes Samir Zakhari, Ph.D., director of the Division of Metabolism and Health Effects at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. As for electrolytes, our kidneys preserve them when we drink, so there's no need to replace them with coconut water. If the taste lifts your postspirits spirits, go for it; but you can save cash (and calories) with the tap.

It protects your ticker

The truth: Diets high in potassium can help lower blood pressure and promote heart health, says Andrea Giancoli, R.D., spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. Coconut water is a good source of the mineral, but it's better to get it from whole foods like veggies (spinach, sweet potatoes) and lowfat milk, which supply additional heart-healthy nutrients such as fiber and vitamin D.

Three more ways to crack this nut

Coconut milk: A sweet alternative to regular dairy, coconut milk is derived from the white meat of a mature coconut, and it provides almost as much healthy potassium as coconut water does. But beware its high saturated-fat content: One cup has about 43 grams.

Coconut milk beverage: Diluted with water, it contains about five times fewer calories than conventional coconut milk. It tastes richer than coconut water.

Shredded coconut: Coconut meat isn't as high in potassium or sodium as coconut water, and it has about 388 calories and 22 g of saturated fat per cup. If you're tempted to cover yours in chocolate, opt for a snack-sized candy bar dipped in antioxidant-rich dark chocolate, which has only 80 calories and 3.5 g of saturated fat. (Don't mind if we do, Mounds bar!)

Kwa mujibu wa mbunge mwenyewe (jina limehifadhiwa), alianza mawasiliano kwa kutumia mtandao wa kijamii wa Facebook na mrembo aliyeandika jina lake Aunty Ezekiel.

Akasema mawasiliano yalinoga, ikafika mahali ‘Aunty’ huyo akatoa shida yake kwa mheshimiwa ambapo alimtaka wakutane amsaidie kiasi cha fedha ili kutatulia tatizo lake.

“Ukaribu wetu kupitia Facebook ulinoga sana nikijua ni Aunty Ezekiel, akanipa na namba yake. Kuna siku akanitumia ujumbe (SMS) kwamba ana shida, anaomba fedha, nikamwelekeza tukutane mahali f’lani nimpe.

“Lakini wakaja wasichana wawili, yeye akaniambia ameshindwa kutoka ana tatizo, niliwapa fedha wale aliowatuma,” alisema mbunge huyo.

Aliendelea kuweka wazi kuwa mawasiliano kati yake na ‘Aunty’ huyo yaliendelea na alizidi kumsaidia kwa hali na mali katika matatizo yake.

Kwa mujibu wa mbunge huyo ambaye pia ana cheo kikubwa bungeni, siku moja alikutana na Aunty ‘laivu’ na kumtaiti kwamba ni kwa nini anashindwa kukutana naye uso kwa uso wakati ameshamsaidia sana.

“Cha kushangaza, Aunty alikataa kuwasiliana na mimi na akasema hajawahi kujiunga na Facebook hata siku moja.

“Nilishtuka, lakini pia nilishangaa sana. Kumbe kuna warembo hapa mjini wanaishi kwa njia haramu kiasi hiki?” alimalizia mbunge huyo.

Amani lilimsaka Aunty kwa njia ya simu na alipopatikana na kusomewa mashitaka yake alikiri kukutana na mheshimiwa huyo na kumpa malalamiko hayo.

“Ni kweli nilikutana na huyo ….(akamtaja jina), akanisimulia hayo unayoniambia, nikakataa kuwasiliana na yeye, akasema hata namba yangu eti anayo.

“Nilimuomba namba hizo, nilipoziandika kwenye simu yangu likatokea jina la Masogange (Agness). Hii ilinishangaza sana. Lakini ukweli ni kwamba mimi sihusiki jamani,” alisema kwa masikitiko makubwa staa huyo.

Amani lilimpandia hewani Masogange na kumpa ‘ei tu zedi’ ya mheshimiwa, naye akafunguka:

“Mimi sijawahi jamani, pengine kuna mtu anatumia jina langu kujinufaisha kwa watu wakubwa, lakini siyo mimi. Na hii inaweza kunichafulia sana.”

Alipoulizwa kama alishawahi kulalamikiwa na Aunty juu ya matumizi ya jina lake, mrembo huyo alisema:

“Yes! Aliwahi kuniambia, nikamjibu kama nilivyokujibu wewe kwamba sihusiki kabisa.”

Mji wa Kigoma utakuwa mwenyeji wa mabingwa wa mikoa ya Dodoma (CDA), Kagera (Bandari FC), Kigoma (JKT Kanembwa), Mwanza (Pamba SC), Shinyanga (Mwadui SC), Singida (Aston Villa) na Tabora (Majimaji).

Mwisho wa kuwasilisha fomu za usajili ni Mei 15 mwaka huu wakati kipindi cha pingamizi ni kuanzia Mei 16 hadi 22 mwaka huu. Mei 23 mwaka huu Kamati ya Mashindano ya TFF itakutana kupitia usajili huo. Wachezaji wanaosajiliwa ni wale wale waliochezea timu hizo katika ligi ya mkoa.

Mei 14 mwaka huu ni mwisho kwa mikoa yenye pingamizi kwa mabingwa wao kuwa wameshashughulikia rufani husika. Kamati ya Mashindano imeagiza kuwa kwa mikoa itakayoshindwa kufanya hivyo mpaka baada ya tarehe hiyo mabingwa wao hawatashiriki ligi hiyo.

Timu tano zitapanda daraja kucheza Ligi Daraja la Kwanza msimu ujao. Mshindi wa kwanza kutoka kila kundi na washindwa wawili bora (best losers) kutoka kundi A na C ambayo yana timu nane kila moja.

Shirikisho la Kimataifa la Mpira wa Miguu (FIFA) limemteua Leslie Liunda wa Tanzania kuwa Kamishna wa mechi ya mchujo ya Kombe la Dunia 2014 Kanda ya Afrika kati ya Lesotho na Sudan itakayochezwa jijini Maseru.

Mechi hiyo ya kwanza ya raundi ya pili itachezwa kati ya Juni 1 na 3 mwaka huu. Lesotho na Sudan ziko kundi D pamoja na Ghana na Zambia.

The most disgusting insect on Earth

This bug looks like it's made a killing carrying a remarkable number of dead bodies on its back to stop it becoming lunch.

As this gruesome picture shows this insect has at least 20 ants on its back which according to scientists confuse potential predators like jumping spiders.

The aptly named assassin bug uses the dead bodies, as a defence mechanism to fend off enemies.

Photographer Hock Ping Guek, from Malaysia, decided to document the amazing camouflage strategy using macro photography.

He said: 'These assassin bugs are quite small, less than 1 cm, so the camera I used really comes in handy here as it allows me to go beyond the 1:1 maximum limit of the usual macro lenses without the need for any add-on tubes.

'The behaviour is indeed absolutely fascinating. They prey on ants, inject enzyme into the ant preys and suck the ants dry, then put the dead bodies on their back for camouflage, most likely as a form of defence against other predator like jumping spiders.

'I spent about 30 minutes photographing these assassin bugs every time I find one.

'I try to shoot as many shots as I could from many different angles, and pick only a few that I like best in terms of angle, moment, composition etc.'

Assassin bugs kill in a rather gruesome way by injecting them with an enzyme and then sucking out their insides.

Despite their fearsome reputation the insects are actually quite small measuring just 1cm in length.

POLYGAMIST SWAZI KING'S 6TH WIFE LEAVES HAREM OVER 'ABUSE'

One of the 13 wives of Swaziland’s king Mswati III has left the royal household after claiming he subjected her to physical and emotional abuse, it has been claimed.

Angela 'LaGija' Dlamini, the sixth wife of the 44-year-old polygamous king, reportedly abandoned her palace on Saturday after telling relatives she had endured years of suffering.

Pro-democracy campaigners claimed the move followed a period of extended difficulty between Dlamini and her husband, who is Africa’s last remaining absolute monarch and has 13 current wives.

''In what will not come as a shock, King Mswati's sixth wife, Angela 'Lagija' Dlamini, has left the Swazi royal harem for good,'' the Daily Mail quoted the Swaziland Solidarity Network as saying in a statement.

''She left the royal household last night, citing many years of emotional and physical abuse by her husband as the reason for her departure,'' it stated.

The South Africa-based organisation, which campaigns for democracy in Swaziland, quoted an unnamed member of the royal family's security team who claimed Dlamini was now staying with relatives after fleeing her husband.

''A royal guard revealed that Angela had been unhappy for a long time and had actually thought of leaving her husband for many years,'' the statement said.

''She finally packed her bags for good last night, initially pretending to be visiting her parental home in Hhohho. From there she disappeared and is believed to be with relatives,'' it added.

The alleged departure of Dlamini, who has a nine-year-old child with her husband, makes her the second of King Mswati’s wives to leave the troubled royal household in recent months.

Last November it emerged that the polygamous leader had kicked his twelfth wife Nothando Dube, 23, out of her palace following claims she had cheated on him with a member of his government.

Dube later claimed her husband had held her as a prisoner for more than a year after she was allegedly caught in bed in August 2010 with his close friend Ndumiso Mamba, Swaziland’s then justice minister who was sacked over the scandal.

According to South Africa’s Times newspaper, Dlamini has now become the third of the monarch’s wives to walk out on him following claims of abuse.

The newspaper claimed former wife Delisa Magwaza, 30, was the first to leave and made her way to London via Cape Town.

She was reportedly followed by Putsoana Hwala, 30, who fled leaving behind her three children, the newspaper reported.

King Mswati’s alleged marital troubles come amid continuing difficulties for the monarch, who has been heavily criticised for his autocratic leadership of Swaziland.

Wenger wants Vorm to provide competition for Szczesny as Arsenal No 1

Arsenal are lining up a swoop for Swansea's Michel Vorm as Arsene Wenger prepares for a summer goalkeeping shake-up.

Sportsmail can reveal senior Gunners scouts have watched Vorm in recent weeks because Wenger wants an experienced keeper to provide competition for current No 1 Wojciech Szczesny.

Manuel Almunia's contract expires at the end of the season and he will leave north London after spending eight years at the club.

West Ham are considering a move for the 34-year-old if they secure promotion to the Barclays Premier League via the play-offs - though they would expect Almunia to take a pay cut on his £60,000-per-week salary.

Lukasz Fabianski will also be allowed to leave, either on a season-long loan or a permanent move. Wenger feels Fabianski has a future at Arsenal, but the Pole wants regular first-team football.

That leaves Wenger with two spaces to fill. It is understood one of the places will go to highly-rated 19-year-old Damian Martinez, who will be promoted to the first team squad.

But Wenger could find it difficult to persuade Vorm - who has been included in Holland's provisional Euro 2012 squad - to swap being Swansea's first-choice keeper for the role of Szczesny's understudy.

Juve chief reveals admiration for RVP

Juventus director Beppe Marotta has expressed his admiration for Arsenal skipper Robin van Persie, but refused to comment on reports the recently-crowned Serie A champions are targeting the Dutchman for the upcoming transfer window.

Van Persie is off contract with the Gunners next summer with a number of Europe's top clubs, including Juventus, reportedly circling. Marotta remained non-committal on specific transfer targets, insisting the club's pursuit of a big-name striker will hinge on negotions with Marco Borriello, who is on loan from Roma.

"[Van Persie] is among the most complete players around, but he still has a year on his contract with Arsenal and so I can only express an opinion on his qualities," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. "I don't feel like naming targets, as that would be unfair for their clubs and the players.

"Our option on buying Borriello from Roma expires on June 20, so we have time to discuss things. He had some initial difficulties, but recently helped us a great deal and [Juventus coach Antonio] Conte always admired him."

Meanwhile, the future of Eljero Elia remains unclear after he stated his desire to leave Juventus on Tuesday as the Dutchman seeks more game time following his move from Hamburg last year. However, Marotta hinted that the club hope to keep hold of Elia next campaign.

"It may seem strange, but a year to settle in was important for Elia," said Marotta. "Serie A is different to the Bundesliga and he understood it's another type of approach.

"Clearly he needs to play consistently and we are happy to help our players when they ask for that, but there won't be any meetings until after the Coppa Italia final [on May 20]."

Rampant Reds gain revenge on Blues

Liverpool put the hurt of Saturday's FA Cup final defeat behind them with their biggest league win of the season as a 4-1 victory ended Chelsea's hopes of a top-four finish.

Kenny Dalglish's side were as energetic and irresistible in the first half as they had been lethargic and wasteful for an hour at Wembley.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo had virtually accepted his side could not qualify for the Champions League with a top-four place by naming an understrength team with eight changes from Saturday, with his sights now set on a Champions League final.

But even if he had put out the side who did so well for 60 minutes on Saturday it is debatable whether they would have been able to resist as the Reds scored four in the league for the first time since the 5-2 win at Fulham a year and a day ago.

The hosts raced into a 3-0 first-half lead through a Michael Essien own goal, Jordan Henderson and Daniel Agger while Stewart Downing also missed a penalty.

Ramires pulled one back just after the break but Jonjo Shelvey restored the three-goal cushion.

Liverpool's shirt sponsors Standard Chartered swapped their logo for Seeing is Believing, one of the bank's initiatives for fighting avoidable blindness, but fans must have been questioning what they witnessed with their own eyes in the first half.

The accusation levelled at Dalglish's side on Saturday was that they did not turn up until it was too late.
