Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Brazilian star Lucas Moura.
The Premier League runners-up are desperate to strengthen their midfield having been forced to rely on the ageing Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs too much last season.
Sao Paulo's 19-year-old attacking midfielder has been subject of intense speculation in recent weeks, with United seeing a £27m bid rejected after chief scout Jim Lawlor was sent to broker a deal.
And speaking on tour, Fergsuon said: 'We haven't reached an agreement for the player. We've shown an interest but until such time we reach an agreement we can't say he's ours.
'We've signed two players in the summer: [Shinji] Kagawa and [Nick] Powell. We think they both have fantastic potential.
'At this moment, we're looking at other options in terms of bringing other players in.
'We're not lying on our backsides doing nothing. We're trying hard to bring other players to the club.'
Moura is currently in London preparing for the Olympics, while United are currently on tour in Africa.
His club have also rejected offers from Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
Only last week the club director Marco Aurelio Cunha, said: 'Manchester United made a very important offer of £29m, but they would need to produce a little more. For us, only Neymar (in Brazil) is worth more.
'We do not need the money. The Brazilian economy is good, television pays us and we cannot complain. For us, it is still better to have a good player than lots of money in the bank.'
