Man Utd’s Owen joining Al-Shabab

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen is on the verge of joining UAE Pro League club Al-Shabab. The 32 year old player has been out of contract ever since he was released by United at the end of last season and has struggled to find a new club due to persistent injury concerns.

The striker, who has also had a stint with Spanish giants Real Madrid, has recently been linked with a move to Stoke City but representatives from Al-Shabab have now revealed that they are in advanced talks with the player’s people that could bring the player to Dubai;

"Michael Owen has been identified as a candidate to play for Shabab next season and we are in negotiations with his management team," said the club on Twitter.

"The player's agent is in Dubai to close the deal."

"We are in talks with the player and his agent, but no agreement has yet been reached between the parties. Things should become clear soon."

The UAE Pro League club is currently coached by Brazilian Paulo Bonamigo. The Club is set to feature in the group stages of the Asian Champions League after finishing third in the league last season.
