Rio Ferdinand 'set to snub Terry handshake'

Manchester United defender Ferdinand will make a final decision on the day of the game against Chelsea, but friends say he is leaning toward giving his England team-mate the cold shoulder.

Ferdinand expressed anger on his Twitter site on Thursday - understood to be at the way the FA are appearing to stand by Terry despite his impending court case for allegedly racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand, Rio's brother.

In contrast, Rio Ferdinand was banned for nine months for missing a drugs test.

Rio Ferdinand, who has nearly two million Twitter followers, wrote: “I feel insulted....woke up with a bad taste in my mouth....its a god damn joke!”

The Mirror can also reveal Terry could be struggling to be fit for the match anyway because of the knee injury that forced him to miss the midweek draw at Swansea.

But the Chelsea captain will also be anxious to avoid accusations that it is simply to take him out of the firing line.

The pre-match handshake will put huge focus on Terry and Ferdinand as the United defender is understood to be firmly behind his brother.

The usual handshakes were abandoned at Chelsea's FA Cup tie against QPR last Saturday amid fears it could escalate bad feeling and cause crowd problems.

The match officials will have that option again at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, but Terry will be desperate to avoid more embarrassment.

Terry, snubbed in the past by ex-team-mate Wayne Bridge, knows all eyes will be on the handshake.
