De Gea to start for United against Chelsea

David De Gea will be offered an instant chance to prove himself as Manchester United's number one keeper this weekend.

The under-fire Spaniard has recovered from the illness and injury that kept him out of the midweek win over Stoke.

And with rival Anders Lindegaard ruled out for a month by an ankle injury, boss Sir Alex Ferguson will offer a powerful show of faith in the youngster by pitching him in at Chelsea on Sunday.

De Gea was poorly before Tuesday night's match at Old Trafford, but afterwards Fergie said the player was also suffering from a slight strain.

That has now cleared up, leaving the manager with a choice between £20million summer signing De Gea, and his two understudies - 21-year- old Ben Amos, who kept a clean sheet against Stoke, and veteran Tomasz Kuszczak.

Ferguson still believes in the Spaniard as his long-term number one, and will put back in at Stamford Bridge with the message to prove it.

De Gea isn't the only United player in line return at the weekend.

Wayne Rooney was running at the training ground on Thursday and should start the game, while Nani and Ashley Young could be in contention to play some part after returning to training following injury.
