England 1-0 Wales player ratings (look away now, Earnie).

The scores on the doors from Wembley...

ENGLAND
Joe Hart Most noticeable thing was his bizarre aquamarine kit. Did not know Gunter was offside when made great late stop. Rating: 6

Chris Smalling Dangerman Gareth Bale was played down the right against the full back with 91 caps rather than rookie Smalling who has two. Easy night. Rating: 6

Gary Cahill Been a good week for Cahill as he has been rock-solid in two games. Looks confident and at home at international level. Rating: 7

John Terry Strong captain's performance as he led by example. Good long range passing and geed up the team to good effect. Rating: 7

Ashley Cole Used his experience and know-how to largely nullify Bale. Why on earth Gary Speed played Bale down the right is anyone's guess. Rating: 7

Gareth Barry Quiet first half but some superb defensive work after the break. Made some decent forward runs. One of England's better players. Rating: 7

Frank Lampard Did not get many openings but blasted over from a second half chance. Clearly still has the appetite to play for England. Rating: 6

James Milner His game was more about industry than invention. Solid enough but would be nice to see a bit more flair and forward runs. Rating: 6

Stewart Downing His old Aston Villa connection with Young paid off on the opening goal. A big price tag and move to Liverpool seems to have helped his belief. Rating: 7

Ashley Young A remarkable season so far for in-form Young. Has stepped up to the plate for club and country and got the all-important first goal. Rating: 8

Wayne Rooney Quiet by his recent standards. Moments of invention but was often too isolated. Few chances and got frustrated at times. Rating: 6

SUBSTITUTES
Scott Parker, for Lampard, 73 mins Left on the bench with a yellow card over his head. Came on and shored things up. Rating: 6

Adam Johnson, for Downing, 79 mins Late substitute did not get chance to make an impact. Rating: 6

**

WALES
Wayne Hennessey Could do nothing about the goal and made a couple of decent saves. Solid performance. Rating: 6

Chris Gunter Had one late chance before being denied by England keeper Joe Hart. Debatable if it had counted. Rating: 6

Darcy Blake Looked hard and strong, gave Rooney very little change. Had a decent game for Wales at the back. Rating: 7

Ashley Williams Had some tough moments but generally played well in the face of strong pressure. Rating: 6

Neil Taylor Quick and nippy, he got forward and tracked back to defend. Looks a decent prospect for Gary Speed. Rating: 7

Andrew Crofts Operated just in front of the back four and did well as he broke up England's play, particularly in first half. Rating: 7

Joe Ledley Went to sleep on England's goal. That moment ruined his night, otherwise fairly decent in midfield. Rating: 5

Jack Collison Got over-run in midfield at times and struggled at Wembley last night. England kept him quiet. Rating: 5

Aaron Ramsey Worked hard but did not get much of a chance to influence the game from an attacking point of view. Rating: 7

Gareth Bale Why oh why put Wales' best player on the wrong flank up against England's more experienced full back? Wasted. Rating: 7

Steve Morison Looked strong early on but Terry and Cahill kept him quiet before he was subbed in the second half. Rating: 5

SUBS
Robert Earnshaw, for Morison, One of the all time worst misses at Wembley. A howler from four yards. Rating: 4
