Elephant causes safari park jam by lying down in front of traffic

Ready for my close-up: Five the elephant strikes a pose in front
of a queue of traffic at a safari park in the West Midlands.

Big laughs: Zoo keeper Andy Plumb managed to capture the
comic snaps of Five the elephant at the safari park.

********
It wasn’t the best place for him to take a nap – but at five-and-a-half tons, Five the African elephant can pretty much sleep where he likes.

So there the 20-year-old beast stayed, down on all fours and firmly in the land of nod, while visitors to his safari park home were forced to queue on the road he was blocking.

The comic pictures were taken by head keeper Andy Plumb, who rushed to grab his camera when he spotted Five.

He said: 'There was a bit of a traffic jam which lasted a fair amount of time as Five was out for the count and there are rocks along the road to stop drivers leaving the track.

'I think the sun was getting a bit too much for him and he simply had no energy left and just settled down where he was.

'When I arrived there was a queue of traffic forming and it just got bigger - he's a bit of a character so I'm not surprised he decided to crash out on a road.

'When he eventually woke up I don't think he knew what all the fuss was about. There was a big cheer and he just wandered off looking for somewhere else to sleep.

'We all had a good laugh about it for the rest of the day.'

A father he never knew, a love-child he once denied and a sister he only met as an adult

Residence: Apple co-founder Mr Jobs lived in this home estimated
at $2.6million in Palo Alto, California.

Couple: He met his wife Laurene Powell in 1989 while speaking at
Stanford's graduate business school and he had
three children with her - Eve, Erin and Reed.

Biological dad: Abdulfattah Jandali, 80, a casino boss, has said he
wanted to meet his son but was worried about calling him
in case Mr Jobs thought he was after money.

****
- Apple co-founder survived by two sisters, wife and their three children
- But he also had love child Lisa Brennan-Jobs with Chrisann Brennan
- His Syrian biological father never had conversation with Jobs as an adult

*****************

Steve Jobs's tangled family of a forgotten father, long-lost sister and love child means lawyers may face a delicate task breaking up his $8.3billion fortune.

The 56-year-old co-founder and former CEO of Apple is widely seen as one of the world's greatest entrepreneurs - and he died just outside the top 100 world’s richest billionaires.

But behind the iconic Californian's wealth and fame lies an extraordinary story of a fragmented family.

Mr Jobs, of Palo Alto, California, is survived by his sisters Patti Jobs and Mona Simpson, his wife Laurene Powell Jobs and their three children Eve, Erin and Reed.

But his family is far from straightforward. He was adopted as a baby and, despite his biological father's attempts to contact him later on, remained estranged from his natural parents.

In his early twenties Mr Jobs became embroiled in a family scandal before his days of close media scrutiny, after he fathered a love child with his high school sweetheart Chrisann Brennan.

Ms Brennan, who was his first serious girlfriend, became pregnant in 1977 - and he at first denied he was the father.

She gave birth to Lisa Brennan-Jobs in 1978 - and in the same year Mr Jobs created the 'Lisa' computer, but insisted it only stood for 'Local Integrated Software Architecture'.

The mother initially raised their daughter on benefits. But he accepted his responsibilities two years later after a court-ordered blood test proved he was the father, despite his claims of being 'infertile'.

Ms Brennan-Jobs has made a living for herself, after graduating from Harvard University, as a journalist and writer.

She was eventually invited into her father's life as a teenager and told Vogue that she 'lived with him for a few years'.

'In California, my mother had raised me mostly alone,' Lisa wrote in an article for Vogue in 2008. 'We didn’t have many things, but she is warm and we were happy. We moved a lot. We rented.

'My father was rich and renowned, and later, as I got to know him, went on vacations with him, and then lived with him for a few years, I saw another, more glamorous world.'

She did not want to bring up a child out of wedlock and went to San Francisco from their home in Wisconsin to have the baby.

Mr Jobs is thought never to have made contact with his biological father.

Mr Jandali, 80, a casino boss, has said he wanted to meet his son but was worried if Mr Jobs thought he was after money.

He had always hoped that his son would call him to make contact - and had emailed him a few times in an attempt to speak. Mr Jandali once said he 'cannot believe' his son created so many gadgets.

'This might sound strange, though, but I am not prepared, even if either of us was on our deathbeds, to pick up the phone to call him,' he said.

Ms Simpson and Mr Jandali then had a second child called Mona Simpson, who became a novelist.

Ms Simpson is an author who once wrote a book loosely based on her biological brother. She lives in Santa Monica, California, with her two children and was once married to producer Richard Appel.

But Mr Jobs did not actually meet Ms Simpson until he was aged 27. He never wanted to explain how he tracked down his sister, but she described their relationship as 'close'.

Mr Jobs was adopted by working-class couple Clara and Paul Jobs, who have both since died, but they also later adopted a second child - Patti Jobs.

He later had the Ms Brennan-Jobs love child with his longtime girlfriend Ms Brennan in 1978.

He met his wife Laurene Powell in 1989 while speaking at Stanford's graduate business school and he had three children with her - Eve, Erin and Reed.

They married in 1991 and Reed was born soon after. He is their oldest child, aged 20.

Mr Jobs registered an incredible 338 U.S. patents or patent applications for technology and electronic accessories, reported the International Business Times.

He was believed to have driven a 2007 Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG, which was worth around $130,000 new at the time.

His 5,700 sq ft home was a 1930s Tudor-style property with seven bedrooms and four bathrooms - and it is estimated by CNBC to be worth $2.6million.

Mr Jobs also owned a huge historic Spanish colonial home in Woodside, which had 14 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, located across six acres of forested land.

But he later had it knocked down to make way for a smaller property after a long legal battle.

His charitable giving has always been a secret topic, just like most other elements of his lifestyle.

Mr Jobs reportedly declined to get involved with the Giving Pledge - founded by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates to get the wealthiest people to give away at least half of their wealth.

But he is rumoured to have given $150million to the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California in San Francisco, reported the New York Times.

It is cancer organisations that are most likely to be supported if any charities are in his will, as he died on Wednesday at the age of 56 from the pancreatic form of the illness.

R.I.P.....STEVE JOBS - THE iMAN

'Remembering that you are going to die is the
best way I know to avoid the trap
of thinking you have something to lose'

Steve Jobs, 2005

The man who changed the world.

Historic: Jobs poses with Apple Macintosh at the new
computer's unveiling in 1984.

Visionary: Steve Jobs unveils the Apple I-Mac on
May 18, 1998 in California.

Family: Steve Jobs and wife Laurene Powell during
Pixar Exhibit Launch at The Museum of Modern Art
in New York.

Innovator: Steve Jobs introduces the Apple Nano in
San Francisco. He passed away today.

Gadget: Jobs holds the new iPad during a product
announcement in San Francisco last year.

Steve Jobs gave me an iPad2 early, boasts Obama (a man with friends in high places).

Ahead of the queue: President Obama got his iPad 2 'a
little early' directly from Steve Jobs.

********
Six months ago it was the must-have gadget which some stores sold out of and many had to wait days or weeks to buy.

But Barack Obama managed to get his hands on Apple's tablet device before it even hit the shops - after being given one personally by Steve Jobs.

The U.S. president revealed his own friends in high places after saying in an interview he was given an iPad 2 'a little bit early' by the former Apple CEO.

In a recent interview with George Stephanopoulous of ABC News, Obama said: 'Steve Jobs actually gave it to me, a little bit early. Yeah, it was cool. I got it directly from him.'

The revelation by President Obama raises the issue as to whether one of the most powerful men in the world might also be lucky enough to be given a pre-release iPhone 4S.

It is no secret that the President is an avowed Blackberry user, but he could be tempted by an early look at Apple's latest handset, which has voice control and a faster chip.

The President is clearly a fan of new technology, after he invited the world's biggest internet entrepreneurs to a technology summit in California in February.

Among the guests at Obama's dinner were then Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

The new iPhone is iPhone 4S, not iPhone 5, and the voice-controlled handset is set to launch on October 14.

Apple's share price plunged 3 per cent after it was revealed that the new phone would be the 4S, not an all-new iPhone 5.

The man who changed the world: Apple founder Steve Jobs, 56, dies weeks after quitting as boss of firm he started in his garage.

- President Obama leads tributes, which flooded the web within minutes of his death being confirmed

- Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg praises his 'mentor and friend'

- Family thank 'the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve's illness'

- 'We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today,' Apple's board of directors say in statement

- Had battled pancreatic cancer for eight years

- Death came six weeks after he stepped down as Apple CEO and just one day after the launch of the new generation iPhone

Apple founder Steve Jobs died yesterday after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

Tributes, led by President Barack Obama, began pouring in within minutes of the company confirming the death of the mastermind behind the iPhone, iPad and the iPod at the age of 56.

'We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today,' read a statement by Apple's board of directors.

'Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

'His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.'

The homepage of Apple's website this evening switched to a full-page image of Jobs with the text, 'Steve Jobs 1955-2011.'
Clicking on the image revealed the additional text: 'Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being.

'Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor.
'Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.'

Jobs leaves a wife, a son and two daughters.

His relatives also released a statement, which said he 'died peacefully today, surrounded by his family.

'In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve's illness.'

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the news of Jobs's death to Apple employees via e-mail: 'I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

'We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon.

'No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honour his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.'

Within minutes of his death being confirmed, tributes to Jobs began flooding the web, led by President Barack Obama, who tweeted: 'Rest in peace, Steve Jobs. From all of us at #Obama2012, thank you for the work you make possible every day - including ours.'

Mr Obama later gave a fuller statement, in which he praised Jobs as a 'visionary' who was 'bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.'

'The world has lost a visionary,' he said. 'And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented.

'Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve’s wife Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him.'

He added: 'Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last. Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.'

From its earliest beginnings as a personal computer also-ran in a scrappy garage in northern California to its all-conquering development of life-changing gadgets the rise of Apple has been intrinsically linked to its quirky CEO.

When he left for eleven years after a row over the company’s direction, Apple’s fortunes dipped.

His return, after a successful stint as head of animation innovators Pixar, marked the start of the company’s relentless drive to become one of America’s biggest and most successful companies.

His death comes just six weeks after his poor health led him to stand down as the company's CEO and his successor, Tim Cook, presented the new generation iPhone yesterday.

The fact that Apple stayed cool as it grew is credited to Jobs’ innovative marketing techniques almost as much as his visionary wizardry.

Even when he announced that he was taking two years off on medical leave, Jobs still kept hold of his CEO title, just as he did on two previous occasions in the past seven years when he needed to take leave from the day-to-day running of the company for health reasons.

At the time, the billionaire could barely walk and photographs of him looking gaunt and frail led to reports that he just had weeks to live.

But he fought back and appeared to be relishing proving the doubters wrong by introducing the second-generation iPad and meeting up with President Obama to discuss the future of the tech industry.

Other than his well-rehearsed stage appearances to launch the latest Apple innovation, Jobs always treasured his privacy.

He survived surgery to remove a cancerous pancreatic tumour in 2004 and a liver transplant in 2009.

As CEO he earned only $1 a year, but he held 5,426 million Apple shares as well as 138 million shares in Disney.
His wealth is estimated at more than $5billion.

With his trademark jeans and casual jumper, he became synonymous with the company’s every innovation in recent years, from the iPod through to the iPhone and iPad.

Born in San Francisco, Mr Jobs, who was adopted, dropped out of university after one term and only took his first computer job to raise money to go on a spiritual retreat to India.

He returned a Buddhist with his head shaved and admitted experimenting with LSD, calling his drug-induced experiences 'one of the two or three most important things' he had done in his life.

Back in northern California, he started working for computer firm Atari before founding Apple in his garage in 1976 with friends Steve Wozniak, Ronald Wayne and Mike Makkula.

After a power struggle in 1985, he left the company, only to return eleven years later to launch the company’s extraordinary growth over the past fourteen years.

Anyone who has witnessed Apple employees whooping and high-fiving at a product launch would be mistaken for thinking working for Steve Jobs was a walk in the park.

The Apple founder managed at once to create an atmosphere of teamwork and togetherness, while also demanding nothing but the best: His employees notoriously followed him like a messiah, while also cowering from him in fear.

Jobs's formidable reputation at work was well documented – with rumours suggesting he once fired someone in an elevator and got rid of an assistant after he was brought the wrong brand of mineral water.

His demand for perfection, however, seems to have inspired the best – with job satisfaction ratings among staff at Apple the highest in the industry.

Employees speak of ‘a Steve-infused culture’ at Apple at Apple.

James Allworth, who studied Apple at Harvard Business School, told the Huffington Post: ‘The way he thinks about problems, the perfectionism, the attention to detail - that trickles down.

‘Apple has an amazing group of people. They come in and they're thinking about new stuff, and if they come up against a decision, the question that always pops up is: “What Would Steve Do?”’

One of the world's most famous CEOs, Jobs remained stubbornly private about his personal life, refusing interviews and shielding his wife and their children from public view.

Even when he resigned six weeks ago, he divulged very little, not directly mentioning his cancer as the reason he quit.

'I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know,' Jobs wrote in his letter of resignation.

'Unfortunately, that day has come.'

'He's never been a media person,' said industry analyst Tim Bajarin, president of Creative Strategies, after Jobs resigned. 'He's granted interviews in the context of product launches, when it benefits Apple, but you never see him talk about himself.'

But that personal life - he was given up at birth for adoption, had an illegitimate child, was romantically linked with movie stars - was full of intrigue for his fan base and Apple consumers.

Jobs and his wife, Laurene Powell, were married in a small ceremony in Yosemite National Park in 1991, lived in Woodside, California, and had three children: Reed Paul, Erin Sienna and Eve.

He admitted that when he was 23, he had a child out of wedlock with his high school girlfriend, Chris Ann Brennan. Their daughter, Lisa Brennan Jobs, was born in 1978.

Meanwhile, for all he accomplished in his life, there was one thing that eluded him – a relationship with his biological father.

Jobs was adopted after being born to Abdulfattah John Jandali, a Syrian man, and graduate student Joanne Schieble.

The couple were not married at the time and keeping him would have been deemed shameful by their communities.

In August, Mr Jandali, a casino boss, said he wanted to meet his son but was too proud to make the first move – in case Steve thought he was after money.

‘I live in hope that before it is too late he will reach out to me,’ Mr Jandali told the Sun. ‘Even to have just one coffee with him just once would make me a very happy man.

‘This might sound strange, but I am not prepared, even if either of us was on our deathbed, to pick up the phone to call him.'
This evening, thousands of tributes were paid within minutes of his death being confirmed.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said: 'Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you.'

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates also spoke of the 'profound impact' Jobs had on the world.

‘I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death,' he said.

'Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.

'The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honour. I will miss Steve immensely.’

Google Chief Executive Larry Page posted on his Google+ account: 'He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what you actually should have been thinking before you thought it. His focus on the user experience above all else has always been an inspiration to me.'

Though often brusque, Jobs inspired near messianic devotion from his employees and millions of customers.

In addition to creating sleek computers, he helped transform the music and publishing industries by creating portable and user friendly products like the iPod, iPhone and the iPad.

Jobs also helped refashion a tiny graphics company into Pixar, the creator of such animated smashes as Toy Story and Finding Nemo.
After Disney acquired Pixar in 2006, he became the media giant's largest shareholder.

In a statement, Bob Iger, chief executive of Walt Disney, described Steve Jobs as a person whose 'legacy will extend far beyond the products he created or the businesses he built, it will be the millions of people he inspired, the lives he changed, and the culture he defined.'

Mr Iger added: 'Steve was such an original, with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started.'

California Governor Jerry Brown added: ‘Steve Jobs was a great California innovator who demonstrated what a totally independent and creative mind can accomplish.

'Few people have made such a powerful and elegant imprint on our lives. Anne and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to Steve’s wife, Laurene, and their entire family.’

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former California governor and Hollywood actor, said: 'Steve lived the California Dream every day of his life and he changed the world and inspired all of us.'

Michael Dell, CEO and founder Dell Inc., added: 'Today the world lost a visionary leader, the technology industry lost an iconic legend and I lost a friend and fellow founder.

'The legacy of Steve Jobs will be remembered for generations to come. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to the Apple team.'

Apple has set up an address for people to email their memories of Mr Jobs to the company - rememberingsteve@apple.com.

Well-wishers flocked to Apple's New York store on 5th Avenue to discuss their thoughts on his passing and post tributes on walls.
People left flowers outside the store and lit candles, while staff huddled together to discuss the tragic news.

Fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to Steve Jobs' in their masses. Within minutes of the announcement by Apple, RIP Steve Jobs was trending.

Soon after iHeaven, iClouds, iSad and ThankYouSteve also began repeatedly to be tweeted.

In the hour after his death was announced, there were more than 170,000 mentions of 'RIP Steve Jobs' on Twitter.

AMPA TUZO BOB JUNIOR, WAMALIZA BIFU

bifu kati yao halipo tena.

SASA WEMA AVALISHWA PETE

Adebayor 'sad' but not surprised at abuse from Arsenal fans in north London derby.

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has spoken of his sadness at the vile abuse hurled at him by some Arsenal fans at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

The Togolese striker, who survived a machine gun attack that killed three members of the Togo party at last year's Africa Cup of Nations said: 'The songs they sang about me were very bad but was I surprised? No. Disappointed? Yes. It is sad that parents let their children hear or sing such things.

'Obviously it was all meant to hurt me, to upset me, to anger me. But I am so glad I kept my dignity in the face of people behaving like that. It is sad how the memory of something so awful could be used in such an awful way.'

Adebayor was unhurt when Angolan rebels opened fire on the Togo team bus in January 2010, after which he helped carry wounded team-mates into hospital and saw one friend die in his arms.

'It would be a great shame if they just remembered the stupid songs and not the great football,' added the 27-year-old, who is on loan from Manchester City.

'I understand Arsenal fans are frustrated but those chants won't have an effect on me. I've been through too many difficult times.'

EXCLUSIVE: Chicago Fire want Ferdinand to be their Beckham.

Chicago Fire want to make Rio Ferdinand the new David Beckham of Major League Soccer.

The American team are desperate for a high-profile English player to enable them to compete with Beckham’s LA Galaxy, and have identified Ferdinand as their main target.

Ferdinand will be 33 next month and is out of contract at Manchester United at the end of next season.

Chicago want the England defender to join them next summer and believe they can persuade him to turn his back on the Barclays Premier League to finish his career in the States.

The former Leeds and West Ham favourite has struggled with injury for the last three years and has been left out of the England squad that flies to Montenegro for their final Euro 2012 qualifier.

Lower US tax rates mean that Chicago would be able to ensure that Ferdinand’s take-home pay would be similar to the money he earns from his £120,000-a-week Old Trafford deal.

Ferdinand is determined to make Fabio Capello’s squad for next summer’s finals in Poland and Ukraine, but faces competition from Gary Cahill and clubmates Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

Ferdinand is understood to be aware of interest from America and has not ruled out a move at some stage.

If he were to leave United next summer, there would also be interest from Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.

New voice-controlled iPhone 4S unveiled, to launch on October 14 - but it looks just like the old one.

At Apple's corporate headquarters in Cupertino, California CEO Tim Cook took to the stage to launch the company's new iPhone range - 'This is my first product launch since being made CEO. I'm sure you didn't know that,' he joked.

It was Cook's first launch since he took over as CEO from Apple founder Steve Jobs - and seen as a significant test of his leadership.

The new iPhone is iPhone 4S, not iPhone 5 - looking very similar to the current model, but voice-controlled and with other hi-tech features. The phone launches on October 14.

Just call her Mrs Car-dashian! Kim picks up her new ride... a $274,000 Ferrari

Checking out the new ride: Kim's new car, a Ferrari 458
Italia costs in the region of $300,000.
Speeding off: Kim couldn't wait to get behind the wheel of her
new car and was seen driving away in the luxury vehicle.
It's Kim Car-dashian: Kim went to pick up a new
Ferrari trading in her Range Rover yesterday.

She is often seen driving top of the range automobiles and has been behind the wheel of everything from a Range Rover to a Bentley.
But yesterday Kim Kardashian picked up yet another luxury car, this time a Ferrari 458 Italia.

Kim, 30, picked up her new ride in a blue-grey knitted dress which hugged her famous curves and nipped in her waist thanks to a black belt.

The reality TV star added extra glamour with peep-toe heels and bright red lips as she arrived to pick up her latest toy.

The model, which Kim had chosen to purchase in white, retails from $273,9170 (£178,000) but it is likely Kim’s with added extras cost well over $300,000.

And the reality star certainly seemed pleased with her new car as she sped away from the Platinum Motorsport site in Los Angeles.

Kim has just returned from a trip to the Big Apple where she has been filming the second series of reality show Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

She tweeted: ‘There truly no place like home!’

It appears that Kim’s is without her husband Kris Humphries and she enjoyed a dinner with her family at Nobu last night.
She posted: ‘Nobu with no boo, just the fam tonight!’

The Kardashian clan have been rallying together to support Robert, who is currently appearing on Dancing With The Stars.

Home at last: After four years in an Italian prison, Amanda Knox lands in Seattle to start her life as a free woman

Amanda Knox arrived in her home city of Seattle a free woman this evening after serving four gruelling years in an Italian jail for the murder of English student Meredith Kercher.

After dramatically being cleared of the murder in court yesterday, Knox touched down at Seattle-Tacoma airport to rapturous applause at just after 5pm local time.

Looking shaky and exhausted, Knox made an emotional thank you speech from the airport, addressing all those who stood by her since her murder conviction and saying: 'Thank you for being there for me'.

Summoning the courage to speak after her flight touched down, she said: 'I’m really overwhelmed right now. I was looking down from the aeroplane, I felt like it wasn’t real.

'Thank you for everyone who has believed in me, who has defended me, who has
supported my family.

'I just want – my family’s the most important thing to me...
Thank you for being there for me.'

Her appearance was met with loud applause from those who had waited all day
at the airport to see her.

Earlier she held her mother's hand and cried as she appeared for the first time on home soil since her trial at a press conference at the airport.

She and her family will now head home for a huge celebration, with a party believed to have been organised because she never properly got to celebrate her 21st birthday.

Sisi tulimpeleka huyu Polisi kutoa taarifa” alisema Machu.

Top 10 things you need to know about England's Euro 2012 opponents Montenegro.

England can wrap up their place at next summer's European Championship finals by avoiding defeat away to Montenegro, their closest challengers in Group G, on Friday night. But who are these guys?

With your definitive guide, here's MirrorFootball's Chris Bloor .

1) If England think they're in for an easy ride in Podgorica, they can think again, as even their opponents' name should strike fear into the hearts of Rooney and Co. 'Montenegro' translates as 'Black Mountain', a reference not to any one mountain but to the peaks that line its borders with Serbia and Albania. It's like Lord of the Rings - without the giant eagles.

2) Montenegro declared independence from Serbia in 2006, starting its third period of independence having broken free of the Byzantine Empire in 1042 and from the Ottoman Empire in 1878. They have a population of less than 700,000 - fewer than Birmingham.

3) The country's first ever competition as an independent state was the 2006 Miss World contest. Their representative Ivana Knezevic was named in the top 24 finalists of sub-category Miss Sport, thanks to her status as a three-times table tennis champion.

4) Beauty pageants aren't the only string to the Montenegrins' bow. The basketball team went on a 13=game run before they were unceremoniously beaten by Israel in August 2010, their first ever defeat. And in 2009, they won gold when hosting the FINA Water Polo World League, knocking Serbia into second place. Which must have been nice.

5) Their last football tournament was the 2006 World Cup, where they competed as Serbia and Montenegro. They finished bottom of their group, without picking up a single point, but in fairness, they were pitted against Argentina, Holland and the Ivory Coast, so we'll let them off.

6) As an independent team the Montenegro national side played their first ever game on March 24, 2007, beating Hungary 2-1 in Podgorica (the capital of Montenegro), sending the home fans into raptures. Two months later, they became FIFA's 208th member.

7) Relative infants they may be, but they've made short work of moving up the FIFA ladder, and are already ranked 26th in the world - ahead of the Republic of Ireland (and Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales), Turkey and South Korea. Don't expect a goalfest though. Of their six qualifiers so far, three ended 1-0, one 0-0 and another 1-1.

8) Montenegro will have a different man in charge than when they held England 0-0 at Wembley a year ago. Former Croatia boss Zlatko Kranjcar - father of Tottenham's Niko - paid the price for last month's 2-1 loss to Wales in their previous qualifier. Kranjcar's assistant Branko Brnovic, who's never been a manger before, now occupies the big chair, assisted by Aston Villa, um, legend Svo Milosevic.

9) Their star player is Mirko Vucinic, who Chelsea fans will remember from his brace against them in 2008's Champions League group stage, when Roma won 3-1 in the Stadio Olimpico. If he scores - and he's got 11 in 21 appearances for his country - watch out for his somewhat cheeky celebration. You'll certainly cop an eyeful, as he removes his shorts and reveals a tasty pair of Y-fronts. Here's a sneak peak, just in case England's defence once again stands strong, as we wouldn't want you to miss out.

10) As well as Vucinic, the Brave Falcons' ranks including Blackburn new boy Simon Vukcevic, Stevan Jovetic, who plays for Fiorentina and has been dubbed the new Roberto Baggio, and Stevan Savic, who moved to Manchester City this summer. Vukcevic formerly played at Sporting Lisbon, where he did this sort of thing.

Ancelotti hints at replacing "wobbling" Wenger

Carlo Ancelotti last night made a shameless pitch to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

The former Chelsea coach, who clinched the double at Stamford Bridge, also put Harry Redknapp on alert at Spurs by insisting he wants to come back to a top job in English football.

Ancelotti said: "It's evident that [Arsene] Wenger's bench is wobbling and that in several months' time, an English coach will be appointed to replace [Fabio] Capello in the national team, which will free up a place in a club.

"But I am in no hurry. The fact that I'm not coaching does not cause me anguish. In fact, I am enjoying life."

"I have a strong will to remain in England. For a coach, this is the ideal country.

"But I would only consider [coaching] top clubs, including Tottenham and Liverpool."

Ancelotti was sacked in May after the Blues' unsuccessful defence and their failure in the Champions League.

Tottenham chief Redknapp is on a four-game winning run but is also the hot favourite to replace Capello after Euro 2012.
