Roger Federer could afford to see the funny side after claiming yet another Grand Slam record.
The Swiss so confused Mikhail Youzhny in Wednesday’s quarter-final that his opponent appealed to the Royal Box for help after a torturous hour on Centre Court.
The frustrated Russian did not speak directly to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - more to erstwhile champion Andre Agassi, who was revisiting the scene of so many memories with his wife Steffi Graf.
But as Federer breezed into his 32nd Grand Slam semi-final, overtaking Jimmy Connors’s total, Youzhny decided to ask for advice from the 1992 winner, shouting: ‘Can you tell me what I’m supposed to do out here?’ much to the amusement of those within earshot.
