Kenny Dalglish has slammed Manchester City’s business methods, and insisted Andy Carroll is going nowhere.
City leaked their claim that the Anfield outfit made an inquiry about a potential swap of Carroll and Carlos Tevez.
But Dalglish says there will be no last-minute transfer window activity and has told the moneybags City that they are wrong to go public with such sensitive claims.
“We’re not going to get involved in justifying what people are saying – we don’t have to," said the Scot. "Get City to justify it, not us.
“We’re not talking about any specific incident, but if you are going to do business in any way shape or form, no matter what life you are in, you don’t need to disclose it until it’s done.
“As (Liverpool chairman) Tom Werner said the other day, there’s no point letting the facts get in the way of a good story - when he was talking about Stewart Downing being bought from a clip off YouTube. Do us a favour.”
Dalglish explained he would refuse to dignify City’s claims with any public pronouncements on the subject, but sources within the Anfield club have rubbished them.
They argue there is still annoyance at Eastlands over the Reds boss’s tongue-in-cheek one-liner last week, after City were knocked out of the Carling Cup, wondering if they had more players similar to Craig Bellamy to give away.
For his part, Dalglish is bluntly maintaining his position, held since the current transfer window opened, that he will be doing no business this month.
“Nothing is happening at all and we don’t anticipate it to either. Last year was a bit manic but there’ll be nothing this time,” he said.
“There’s no need for us to pass comment on anything that’s been speculative in any way shape or form. We’ve said what’s going to happen, and that’s nothing. It’s quiet.”
There has been a frenzy of speculation over Carroll's future since the window opened, with the end of his difficult first year at Anfield looming.
But Dalglish is adamant he is happy with the contribution of the big striker, and he believes he can carve out a long career at the club if he develops his game.
“We don’t have any problems with any of the players, because they are all going nowhere,” he said.
“Andy has said he is very happy here and doesn’t regret coming. That’s the best reference you can get, but for some reason the focus always seems to be on the big fella.”
