Cahill heads to Chelsea

Bolton and England defender Gary Cahill has reportedly agreed terms with Chelsea and is expected to complete a £7 million move over the weekend.

Newspaper reports suggest Cahill is set to earn £23 million over five years at Stamford Bridge, and was making his way down from the north west to London to complete a medical on Friday night.

If the deal goes ahead, it will end a nervous wait for Chelsea, who have spent the last two weeks trying to agree personal terms with the 26-year-old.

Reports suggest Cahill had initially wanted £100,000/week from Chelsea, and the club were unwilling to meet his demands. But talks with Chelsea's chief executive Ron Gourlay on Thursday are thought to have led to an agreement that will see Cahill take home around £80,000/week.

It is now expected that Cahill will be unavailable for Bolton's Premier League match against Manchester United on Saturday, and will instead find himself being introduced to Chelsea fans ahead of their home match with Sunderland.
