FC Barcelona 'very far' from deal for Man Utd target

The 22-year-old is keen on signing for the Spanish champions but is also believed to be interested in a move to Manchester United, who are one of several other clubs interested in signing him.

Chelsea are also believed to be interested in the Chile international, as well as a number of Serie A sides.

But although Barca are seen as favourites to sign the playmaker this summer, Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo has claimed the current offer on the table from the Catalans is not good enough.

"The deal with Barcelona is still far from being concluded as the economic conditions to close the transfer do not exist," Pozzo was quoted by La Repubblica as saying.

He added: "The only thing that is keeping this up is that Sanchez, obviously, has his reasons to move and join Barcelona.

"But, there is nothing concrete now, and we are still very far [from agreeing a deal]."

Barca are believed to have matched - or at least come close to matching - a £36million bid recently tabled by Manchester City prior to the club withdrawing their interest in the Chilean.

But City's offer was to pay the entire transfer fee up front, whereas Barcelona want to pay around £24m in advance and then pay the remainder based on appearances - something Udinese are unwilling to do.

Pozzo had earlier revealed that Napoli were contenders to sign the playmaker, saying: "[Napoli president] Aurelio [De Laurentiis] has pleasantly surprised me because he wants to achieve big things and wants to win the Scudetto.

"He has made an interesting financial offer for Sanchez. The deal would be complicated.

"We will have to wait until the Copa America is over and then consider how many pretenders there are and how many clubs are really interested in Sanchez.

"We need to understand who the real suitors of this champion player are.

"We have spoken to two clubs but nothing serious has come out of it.

"Napoli are interested and De Laurentiis has made an important offer. But in order for the deal to be completed, the three parties have to be in agreement.

"Hence, we will wait until the end of the Copa America."

With Barca struggling to agree a fee, United are believed to be hopeful that they can lure Sanchez to Old Trafford should the Catalans complete the signing of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, with recent reports suggesting that the Red Devils do not believe the European champions have the money to finance moves for both players.
