Eden Hazard has revealed a personal chat with owner Roman Abramovich helped secure his £32million switch to Chelsea.
The Belgium playmaker has rubber-stamped his move to Stamford Bridge after completing a medical.
Chelsea have confirmed a fee with Lille and personal terms with Hazard have been agreed for the transfer of the talented 21-year-old.
The deal is expected to be ratified when the French transfer window re-opens on June 13 before Hazard meets up with his new team-mates for pre-season training in early July.
‘I spoke with Abramovich, he is very simple and loves football. We were on the same wavelength, he wants to confirm Chelsea’s position at the top,’ said Hazard.
‘Chelsea have made a good investment for me, but I did not put any pressure on them.’
The highly rated forward claims he could easily have ended up at Old Trafford had Chelsea not grabbed Champions League glory against Bayern Munich last month, revealing he even spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson.
‘I’ve always wanted to play in England, there was a struggle between Chelsea and United, but to me Chelsea have the best project,’ added Hazard.
‘I was in advanced contact with both clubs and I spoke to both coaches. I want to be playing in the Champions League every year. Initially, Chelsea were sixth and not qualified for the Champions League. But when they won the Champions League I said to myself, “Why not Chelsea?”
‘The team are young and I have a better chance to play.
