Manchester United are closing in on a £17million deal for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa and are considering a fresh move for Tottenham’s Luka Modric.
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said that ‘both sides want to conclude the deal’.
United have increased their original offer, despite the 23-year-old only having one year left on contract, as they recognise there is massive commercial potential in signing the Japan international.
Modric, 26, is a long-time target and Tottenham would want £35m but United are keen to bring that price down as they also looking for a left-back.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen have ruled out a move for Dimitar Berbatov.
