Manchester United have completed the signing of Blackburn defender Phil Jones on a five-year contract for an estimated £16.5million
The two clubs agreed a fee on Monday afternoon after Rovers had earlier blocked the deal from going through.
The Ewood Park outfit's owners were believed to be unhappy with how the Premier League champions had found out about a £16m release clause in his contract.
Reports at the weekend claimed Liverpool were preparing a bid of over £20m and with Blackburn holding up the deal, United had little choice but to offer more money.
But with reports on Monday morning suggesting United may have to bid closer to £20m, a deal has gone through after the England Under-21 international seemingly told the club's Indian owners that he only wanted to move to Old Trafford.
A United statement read: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has signed an agreement with Blackburn Rovers for the transfer of Phil Jones.
"The player passed a medical in Manchester last week and has agreed a five-year contract.
"The deal will be completed once the player returns from international duty."
