16 bora ya michuano ya Copa Coca-Cola 2012 inaanza kesho (Julai 7 mwaka huu) kwa mechi nne zitakazokutanisha timu nane kati ya 16 zilizofuzu hatua hiyo. Mechi hizo za 16 bora zitachezwa kwenye viwanja vya Kumbukumbu ya Karume na Tanganyika Packers vya Dar es Salaam.

Ruvuma iliyoongoza kundi A itacheza na Temeke iliyoshika nafasi ya tatu kundi C. Mechi hiyo itaanza saa 2.30 asubuhi Uwanja wa Karume. Mechi nyingine ya asubuhi itakayochezwa Tanganyika Packers itawakutanisha washindi wa pili kundi A Kigoma dhidi ya Mara walioshika nafasi ya nne kundi C.

Mechi za jioni kwa kesho zitakazoanza saa 10 kamili jioni zitakuwa kati ya Mjini Magharibi na Kagera kwenye Uwanja wa Karume wakati Morogoro na Pwani zitaumana kwenye Uwanja wa Tanganyika Packers ulioko Kawe, Dar es Salaam.

Hatua ya 16 bora itakamilika keshokutwa (Julai 8 mwaka huu) kwa mechi za asubuhi kati ya Kinondoni na Rukwa kwenye Uwanja wa Karume, na Dodoma dhidi ya Arusha kwenye Uwanja wa Tanganyika Packers. Mechi za jioni siku hiyo ni kati ya Kilimanjaro na Mwanza (Uwanja wa Karume) na Tabora na Tanga (Tanganyika Packers).

Timu zitakazoshinda zitaingia hatua ya robo fainali itakayochezwa Julai 10 na 11 mwaka huu kwenye Uwanja wa Kumbukumbu ya Karume. Nusu fainali itachezwa Julai 13 mwaka huu, na kufuatiwa na mechi ya mshindi wa watatu na fainali ambazo zote zitachezwa Julai 15 mwaka huu.

SABA WAPATA ITC KUCHEZA KENYA, MSUMBIJI

Shirikisho la Mpira wa Miguu Tanzania (TFF) limetoa Hati ya Uhamisho wa Kimataifa (ITC) kwa Watanzania saba kucheza mpira wa miguu katika nchi za Kenya na Msumbiji.

TFF imetoa hati hizo kwa wachezaji hao baada ya kuombewa na Shirikisho la Mpira wa Miguu la Kenya (FKF) na Shirikisho la Mpira wa Miguu la Msumbiji (FMF) ili waweze kucheza katika klabu za nchi hizo.

Wachezaji waliokwenda Bandari ya Kenya na klabu walizokuwa wakichezea nchini kwenye mabano ni David Naftali (huru), Meshack Abel (huru), Mohamed Banka (huru) na Thomas Mourice (Mtibwa Sugar).

Klabu ya CD Madchegde ya Msumbiji imewachukua wachezaji Hassan Hassan Mustapha kutoka Mgambo Shooting ya Tanga, na Abdallah Ally Abdallah na Thobias David Silas kutoka klabu ya daraja la kwanza ya Transit Camp ya Dar es Salaam.

ODHIAMBO WA AZAM APATA ITC

Shirikisho la Mpira wa Miguu Tanzania (TFF) limepokea Hati ya Uhamisho wa Kimataifa (ITC) ya mchezaji George Odhiambo, raia wa Kenya aliyejiunga na klabu ya Azam.

Hati hiyo imetolewa na Chama cha Mpira wa Miguu cha Denmark (DBU) ambapo Odhiambo alikuwa akicheza nchini humo kabla ya kutua Azam kwa ajili ya msimu wa 2012/2013.

Klabu nyingine zinazosajili wachezaji kutoka nje ya Tanzania zinatakiwa kuhakikisha zinakamilisha uhamisho wao (transfer) kabla ya Julai 30 mwaka huu ambayo ndiyo siku ya mwisho kufanya hivyo.

Kanuni ya 41 ya Ligi Kuu kuhusu ITC inasema: “(1) Maombi ya ITC kwa wachezaji wa kigeni wa kulipwa yatawasilishwa kupitia mtandao wa kompyuta kwa kutumia program ya ‘Transfer Matching System-TMS’ baada ya klabu zinazohusika na mchezaji huyo au wachezaji hao kukubaliana nje ya mtandao.

(2) Maombi ya ITC kwa wachezaji wa kigeni wasio wa kulipwa yatawasilishwa kwa barua TFF baada ya klabu zinazohusika na mchezaji huyo au wachezaji hao kukubaliana. Chama cha Soka kinachotoa ITC kwa njia hii kitapeleka nakala FIFA. (3) ITC haihitajiki kwa mchezaji mwenye umri chini ya miaka kumi na mbili (12).”

Tunapenda kuzikumbusha klabu kuwa kwa mujibu wa Kanuni ya 53 ya Ligi Kuu, wachezaji wa kigeni ni lazima wawe wanachezea timu ya Taifa au klabu za Ligi Kuu huko wanakotoka.

Kanuni hiyo inasema: “Klabu inaruhusiwa kusajili wachezaji wa kigeni wa ngazi ya kimataifa ambao ni wa timu za Taifa na Ligi Kuu kutoka nje ya nchi wasiozidi watano (5). Wachezaji kutoka Ulaya na Marekani ya Kusini wanweza kuwa wa daraja la pili na kuendelea, na klabu inaruhusiwa kuchezesha wachezaji walioorodheshwa wasiozidi watano (5) wa kigeni katika mchezo mmoja. Wachezaji hao watasajiliwa baada ya TFF kuhakikisha usahihi wa taarifa zao na kukamilika kwa taratibu za uhamisho wa kimataifa.”

MSHAMBULIAJI nyota wa TP Mazembe, Thomas Ulimwengu jana alinusurika kifo katika ajali ya ndege iliyotokea nchini DR Congo.

Ulimwengu raia wa Tanzania anayekipiga TP Mazembe alinusurika katika ajali hiyo akiwa katika ndege iliyokuwa inajaribu kuruka lakini ikashindwa.

Kutokana na kushindwa kupaa, ndege hiyo iliacha njia na kuingia vichakani, Ulimwengu akiwa ndani pamoja na wachezaji wengine 15 wa TP Mazembe na timu ya benchi la ufundi.

Taarifa za ajali hiyo jana zilipatikana saa 8 mchana kupitia katika ukurasa wa mtandao wa kijamii wa Facebook wa Ulimwengu ambaye aliweka maneno haya.

OKWI AELEZA KILA KITU KUHUSU YANGA

MSHAMBULIAJI nyota wa Simba, Emmanuel Okwi ameitaka Yanga kuonana na viongozi wa Simba kama ina nia ya kumsajili kwa ajili ya msimu ujao.

Pamoja na hivyo, Okwi amesisitiza, ndoto yake ni kucheza soka la kulipwa barani Ulaya na kesho au keshokutwa ataanza safari ya kwenda nchini Italia kufanya majaribio katika klabu ya Parma.

Sidhani kama ni vibaya kuzungumza na mtu, sina uadui,” alisema.

Jana, mashabiki wa Simba walikuwa katika hofu kuu kuhusiana na taarifa za Okwi kusaini kuichezea Yanga kwa ajili ya msimu ujao. Hata hivyo, mkataba wa Okwi unaomalizika Julai mwakani.

Okwi alikataa kulizungumzia suala hilo na kusisitiza anataka kumalizia suala lake la kupata Visa kwa ajili kwenda nchini Italia kwa ajili ya majaribio.

Malware may knock thousands off Internet on Monday

Despite repeated alerts, tens of thousands of Americans may still lose their Internet service Monday unless they do a quick check of their computers for malware that could have taken over their machines more than a year ago.

The warnings about the Internet problem have been splashed across Facebook and Google. Internet service providers have sent notices, and the FBI set up a special website.

According to the FBI, the number of computers that probably are infected is more than 277,000 worldwide, down from about 360,000 in April. About 64,000 still-infected computers are probably in the United States.

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority said about 25,000 of the computers initially affected by the malware were in Canada, but now only about 7,000 machines remain infected there, according to Canadian Internet Registration Authority spokesman Mark Buell.

He said his organization, together with Public Safety Canada and the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission, has developed an online site where computer users can check their computers for the malware.

People whose computers are still infected Monday will lose their ability to go online, and they will have to call their service providers for help deleting the malware and reconnecting to the Internet.

The problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of more than 570,000 infected computers around the world. When the FBI went in to take down the hackers late last year, agents realized that if they turned off the malicious servers being used to control the computers, all the victims would lose their Internet service.

In a highly unusual move, the FBI set up a safety net. They brought in a private company to install two clean Internet servers to take over for the malicious servers so that people would not suddenly lose their Internet.

And while it was the first time they'd done something like that, FBI officials acknowledged that it may not be the last, since authorities are taking on more of these types of investigations.

The temporary Internet system they set up, however, will be shut down at 12:01 a.m. EDT Monday, July 9.

Most victims don't even know their computers have been infected, although the malicious software probably has slowed their online surfing and disabled their antivirus software, making their machines more vulnerable to other problems.

But popular social networking sites and Internet providers have gotten more involved, reaching out to computer users to warn of the problem.

According to Tom Grasso, an FBI supervisory special agent, many Internet providers are ready for the problem and have plans to try to help their customers. Some, such as Comcast, already have reached out.

The company sent out notices and posted information on its website. Because the company can tell whether there is a problem with a customer's Internet server, Comcast sent an email, letter or Internet notice to customers whose computers appeared to be affected.

Grasso said other Internet providers may come up with technical solutions that they will put in place Monday that will either correct the problem or provide information to customers when they call to say their Internet isn't working. If the Internet providers correct the server problem, the Internet will work, but the malware will remain on victims' computers and could pose future problems.

In addition to individual computer owners, about 50 Fortune 500 companies are still infected, Grasso said.

Both Facebook and Google created their own warning messages that showed up if someone using either site appeared to have an infected computer. Facebook users would get a message that says, "Your computer or network might be infected," along with a link that users can click for more information.

Google users got a similar message, displayed at the top of a Google search results page. It also provides information on correcting the problem.

To check whether a computer is infected, users can visit a website run by the group brought in by the FBI: http://www.dcwg.org .

The site includes links to respected commercial sites that will run a quick check on the computer, and it also lays out detailed instructions if users want to actually check the computer themselves.

Zidane in frame to replace Blanc as Les Bleus boss

Zinedine Zidane has emerged as a strong contender to replace Laurent Blanc as France boss.

Despite having no coaching experience, the 40-year-old is being seriously considered for the post by French FA chief Noel le Graet, according to L'Equipe.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already turned down the post, while Didier Deschamps, the next man on their wish list, has reservations.

Zidane admitted at the weekend that he was ready to go into coaching, having served as a presidential adviser and now first-team director at Real Madrid.

Le Graet reacted warmly, saying: 'I find it very charming that he has expressed a desire to be close to France’s team.

'He dreams of coaching France within a decade. It is very gratifying.'

His otherwise glorious football career ended ignominiously when he planted his head into Marco Materazzi’s chest and was sent off in the 2006 World Cup final.

And France will wonder if he is the type of character to whip into shape a group of players who have had a penchant for revolt against authority in recent tournaments.

A poll on the L'Equipe shows fans already delivering a resounding 'Non' to the idea, with three quarters of the first 20,000 respondents against Zidane's appointment.

Blanc left after the team were knocked out by Spain in the quarter-finals of Euro 2012.

Goal-line technology given go-ahead

International football's FA board (IFAB) has unanimously approved the use of goal-line technology after months of exhaustive tests were carried out on two systems - Hawk-Eye and GoalRef.

The Premier League reacted to the historic decision in Zurich by vowing to implement the technology "as soon as practically possible''. However, the introduction will not be immediate because each system will have to be licensed, installed and tested in each venue to ensure it is functioning properly.

"The Premier League has been a long term advocate of goal-line technology,'' read a statement from the organisation. "We welcome today's decision by IFAB and will engage in discussions with both Hawkeye and GoalRef in the near future with a view to introducing goal-line technology as soon as is practically possible .'"

The technology could be ready to go in the English top-flight as soon as the new year and FA general secretary Alex Horne said it could also be used for the latter stages of the FA Cup, as one of the goal-line technology systems is already installed at Wembley Stadium.

"It is perfectly possible to introduce it halfway through the season," Horne said. "We have already got Hawk-Eye at Wembley, it needs to be calibrated and make sure it's working properly and licensed so we are nearly there and we could turn Hawk-Eye on quite quickly.

"The FA Cup would be our decision and we could say for the semi-finals and finals of the FA Cup we could turn it on, I don't think that is a very controversial decision."

Meanwhile, FIFA intends to put Hawk-Eye and GoalRef to the test at the Club World Cup in Tokyo in 2013, with a view to using it at next year's Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke said world football's governing body would pay for the systems - around £160,000 per Stadium - and leave them in place in the stadiums used during all three tournaments.

Momentum towards goal-line technology has increased since Frank Lampard was denied an equaliser for England against Germany in the 2010 World Cup when the ball hit the bar and bounced over the line but no goal was given.

That incident caused the FIFA president Sepp Blatter to publicly back technology for the first time, and the issue hit the headlines again when Ukraine were denied a goal when the ball crossed the line against England in Euro 2012.

Blatter said: "For me as FIFA president it became evident the moment what happened in South Africa in 2010. I have to say 'thank you Lampard'. I was completely down in South Africa when I saw that it really shocked me, it took me a day to react. It happened again in Ukraine, and Ukraine can still not believe it now.''

There will be no move towards bringing in other technology, such as video replays to judge offsides for example, said IFAB in a statement.

"This approval is subject to a final installation test at each stadium before the systems can be used in 'real' football matches,'' said the statement. "The IFAB was keen to stress that technology will only be utilised for the goal-line and for no other areas of the game.''

Tests on the Hawk-Eye and GoalRef systems were carried out by the Swiss Federal Laboratory for Materials Science and Technology, with the results evaluated by IFAB members at a meeting earlier this month.

Hawk-Eye, developed by a British company, is based on cameras, while GoalRef, a Danish-German development, uses magnetic fields.

Kroenke in firing line over RVP

Arsenal's second-biggest shareholders have written an open letter to owner Stan Kroenke expressing their concern about how the American is running the club in the wake of Robin van Persie's declaration he will not be signing a new contract at Emirates Stadium.

Alisher Usmanov and Farhad Moshiri, who own just under 30% of Arsenal through investment company Red & White, have outlined "deep reservations" about the Gunners' strategy, after star striker Van Persie confirmed he does not see his long-term future with the club.

Van Persie said in a statement on Wednesday he "disagrees" with the current direction of the side under manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis, with the North London team without a trophy since 2005.

On Thursday, a letter was released on behalf of Usmanov and Moshiri, warning "we are faced with losing our true marquee player" because we cannot "give confidence that we can win trophies," and asking "where are the safeguards to ensure that this doesn't happen again and again?"

They also complained that a "tight" financial regime is leading to Wenger "selling his best players and having to continue to find cheaper replacements."

The letter continued: "In our view it is clear you are trying to distract attention from the more fundamental issues facing the club.

"These are the financial model, the lack of investment and club's future strategic direction.

"At the heart of this is the policy of so-called self-financing. The previous decision by the board to fund the building of the Emirates Stadium with long-term debt was, we believe, certainly not about self-financing."

Red & White, who point out they have "invested circa £200 million of cash'', set out their "vision'' for Arsenal.

The letter added: "It is simple. A debt free club, with a big enough war chest to buy top talent players who can hit the ground running and who can complement the club's long tradition of developing young players and homegrown talent.

"Together they can help the club win the most prestigious trophies - because it is the trophies which are the crowning achievement for everybody at the club.''

Red & White closed their letter by wishing Kroenke "every success'', although stressing they have "deep reservations about the viability of the policies being pursued by his management team and sanctioned by the board''.

The letter concluded: "Finally and reflecting our long-term commitment to the club, we will continue to purchase more shares in the club from anyone who wants to sell them to us.

"Also in order to formalise our long-term involvement with the club and put an end to any speculation over our position, we, as the co-owners of Red & White, will proudly retain our holding in the club as a long-term investment for ourselves and our family members to benefit for generations to come.

"We want the absolute best for the club and will do what is necessary to ensure the success of the club that we all love.''

Alba seals Barca move

Jordi Alba has completed his €14 million move from Valencia to Barcelona, signing a five-year contract at the Camp Nou.

Spanish full-back Alba had agreed the move in principle a week prior to La Roja's victory in the final of Euro 2012 but passed a medical, completed the necessary paperwork and was presented to the media on Thursday.

The 23-year-old is Barca's first signing of the summer as they build towards next season under new coach Tito Vilanova, who has replaced Pep Guardiola.

Alba, whose contract with Valencia was due to expire in June 2013 and had a €90 million buy-out clause, is no stranger to Barcelona, having spent seven years at their La Masia youth academy from 1998 to 2005.

At the Mestalla, Alba was part of the Valencia reserve side that was promoted to Segunda B before spending the 2008-09 season on loan at Gimnastic Tarragona.

On returning to Valencia he soon became a regular in coach Unai Emery's first team, making 74 league appearances in three seasons, scoring five goals.

That earned him international recognition, with his debut coming against Scotland last October. He has won 11 caps to date and was an ever-present in Spain's Euro 2012 winning side, scoring his side's second goal in the final against Italy.

The Swiss so confused Mikhail Youzhny in Wednesday’s quarter-final that his opponent appealed to the Royal Box for help after a torturous hour on Centre Court.

Ferguson lines up Van Persie for Man United but first he must fight off City

Manchester United are preparing to gazump neighbours City and sign unsettled Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.

Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to land the Holland star, who confirmed he will not be signing a new contract at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, as Sportsmail revealed on May 18.

In a damning statement, Van Persie questioned Arsenal’s ambition, saying he wants to win trophies but that he and the club ‘disagree on the way Arsenal should move forward’.

Ferguson wants the Barclays Premier League title back from Manchester City and does not intend to lose out on a player who scored 30 League goals last season.

Van Persie’s shock declaration was met with fury by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis, who face yet another summer of losing their star.

The striker’s statement on his own website read: ‘As announced earlier this year, I had a meeting with the Boss and Mr Gazidis after the season. This was a meeting about the club’s future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.

‘I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we, in many aspects, disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.

'I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions.

‘I love the club and the fans, no matter what happens. I have grown up and became a man during my time with Arsenal FC. I am very proud of being part of this fantastic club for the last eight years. As soon as Mr Gazidis is back from his two-week holiday in America further meetings will follow and I will update you if and when there are more developments.’

Champions City will formalise their interest soon with manager Roberto Mancini desperate to land Van Persie, 28. City are prepared to offer a whopping £225,000-per-week, which is beyond United’s pay structure. But Ferguson will urge his club to push their financial boundaries and beat City.

Gunners officials were stunned by their captain’s statement. No-one at the club had been told it was coming. Wenger and Gazidis both contacted the player’s agent, Kees Vos, to read the riot act over what they perceive to be a blatant attempt to force a move. They are convinced Van Persie has a move lined up and view the player’s statement as an attempt to speed up the process.

Club officers were frantically trying to reach owner Stan Kroenke to update the American businessman. A club statement read: ‘We have to respect Robin’s decision not to renew his contract. Robin has one year to run on his contract and we are confident that he will fulfil his commitments to the club. We are planning with ambition and confidence for next season.’

Nevertheless, Arsenal insiders last night said the club are resigned to selling him this summer. The prospect of £20million is too good to turn down.

Mario would 'love' to play with RVP

Mario Balotelli has waded into the Robin van Persie transfer story, insisting he would "love" to play alongside the Arsenal striker at Manchester City.

Van Persie sent shockwaves through Emirates Stadium on Wednesday when revealing he would not be signing a new contract.

Arsenal issued a statement expressing their hope that the 28-year-old would honour the remaining 12 months of his contract. The Gunners now have the choice of either retaining the forward for another year and losing him on a free or sell him during the current transfer window.

Juventus are said to have had an £8 million bid rejected, while City have held a long-standing interest. City boss Roberto Mancini played down the prospect of signing Van Persie, but the door is now ajar and he may well be tempted to test City's resolve.

And it is clear that Balotelli fancies that idea as he took to Twitter to make a call for Van Persie to make the move to the Premier League champions.

"Will Robin move up to us? I would love to play with him," Balotelli said.

Aidha, Sajuki hakusita kuwashukuru wale wote waliotumia muda wao mwingi kutangaza kwamba yeye amefariki dunia kutokana na maradhi yake.

“Hata wale waliotumia muda wao mwingi kutangaza kwamba mimi nimefariki dunia, pia nawashukuru na Mungu awazidishie. Huenda walifanya vile kwa kuamini walichokuwa wanakifanya ni sahihi.”

Sajuki alianza kuugua mwaka jana ambapo alipata matibabu kwenye Hospitali ya TMJ jijini Dar es Salaam na kubainika ana uvimbe tumboni. Hata hivyo, afya yake ilizidi kwenda mrama na kusababisha kushindwa kutembea.

Wadau, mashabiki wake, ndugu jamaa na marafiki walianza ‘kampeni’ ya kumchangia fedha ili apelekwe kutibiwa nchini India ambapo Mei, 2012 alisafirishwa kwenda nchini humo na kufanyiwa upasuaji.

Sajuki alirejea nchini baada ya wiki mbili lakini hali yake ilikuwa si ya kuridhisha huku akiendelea kutumia dawa.

Akizungumza na waandishi wa habari jana , Katibu wa Chama cha waandishi wa habari za michezo na Burudani mkoa wa Arusha (TASWA ARUSHA), Mussa Juma alisema Makampuni ambayo yamekamilisha udhamini wake ni : Kampuni ya Bia nchini (TBL), Kampuni ya simu ya Alphatel na Kampuni ya Megatrade Investment (T) Ltd.

Juma alisema wadhamini wengine ni Shirika la hifadhi za Taifa (TANAPA), Mamlaka ya hifadhi ya Ngorongoro (NCAA) na mengine kadhaa ambayo yatatangazwa hivi karibuni.

Katibu huyo alisema katika tamasha la mwaka huu, zawadi mbalimbali zimetengwa kwa wanahabari, ikiwepo vikombe na fedha taslimu, katika kuhamasisha michezo na mahusiano baina ya wanahabari na taasisi nyingine Kanda ya Kaskazini.

Akizungumza wakati akikabidhi hundi ya sh. milioni 1.5, Meneja mauzo na masoko wa kampuni ya Megatrade Investment (T) Ltd, Godluck Kway, alisema kampuni hiyo, imeamua kudhamini bonanza hilo kama ishara ya kutambua jitihada za wanahabari mkoani Arusha.

Kway alisema kampuni hiyo, imejipanga kuhakikisha itachangia masuala ya kijamii, kutokana na sehemu ya faida ambayo wamekuwa wakipata kutokana na kuuza bidhaa zao mbali mbali za vinywaji vikali.

"Hii ni mara yetu ya kwanza kusaidia tamasha hili, lakini tunaahidi tutaendelewa kufanya hivi katika miaka ijayo" alisema Kway.

Four months on from Chelsea sacking, AVB resurfaces at Spurs

Andre Villas-Boas has been given a second chance to succeed in the Barclays Premier League.

As Sportsmail forecast last week, the Portuguese has been named as Tottenham’s new manager on a three-year contract.

But the 34-year-old’s appointment only four months after his sacking by Chelsea drew quick criticism from former Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle.

‘I did not think that is the way Spurs would go,’ Hoddle told ESPN. ‘It’s more than a slight risk because of the way things didn’t work out at Chelsea.

‘I thought it might have been better for him to go and reinvent himself elsewhere before he had another crack at English football.’

Villas-Boas was in London yesterday to complete the deal to become Harry Redknapp’s successor, bringing trusted aides Jose Mario Rocha and Daniel Sousa with him as he bids to repair his reputation after poor results and talk of rifts with senior players marred his time at Stamford Bridge.

‘Tottenham Hotspur is a great club with a strong tradition and fantastic support, both at home and throughout the world. I feel privileged to be its coach,’ said Villas-Boas. ‘For me, this is one of the most exciting coaching positions in the Premier League.

‘I have had several discussions with the chairman and the board and I share their vision for the future progress of this club.

‘This is a squad any coach would love to work with and together I believe we can bring success in the seasons ahead.’

Chairman Daniel Levy will open the chequebook to help Villas-Boas reaffirm his position as one of Europe’s best coaches.

‘We are constantly looking to move the club forward,’ said Levy. ‘It is important we now look to develop the potential within the squads at all levels while strengthening the first team in the summer in key positions with players who will become part of the future success of this club.’

While Villas-Boas’s official title of head coach indicates he will not have total control over the club’s transfer policy, the Portuguese is wasting no time in strengthening his new squad.

Spurs took significant steps towards completing the signing of Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson on Tuesday after Villas-Boas approved the £8million signing. Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen — a man Villas-Boas scouted during his spell at Stamford Bridge — is expected to follow.

Villas-Boas has also made it a priority to sign at least one big-name striker, with Spurs exploring the possibility of making a permanent move for Emmanuel Adebayor, while they would want to take Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain in any deal that sends Luka Modric to Spain.

Villas-Boas, who tried to sign Modric for Chelsea last summer, is privately resigned to losing the influential midfielder, with the Bernabeu his likely destination.

There are also concerns over current goalkeepers Brad Friedel and Heurelho Gomes and resolving the uncertainty over Ledley King’s playing future is also believed to be high on Villas-Boas’s agenda.

The club captain’s contract expired on Sunday but he will test out his troublesome knee in pre-season before making a final decision on whether to retire. Villas-Boas would be forced to pick a new skipper if King retires, with Scott Parker and Michael Dawson early contenders for the armband.

In addition to Rocha and Sousa joining the club’s coaching set-up, it is understood Villas-Boas wants to add another two members to his backroom team.
